A New Antipsychotic Drug: Risperidone

Abstract

|
The author reviews clinical results of risperidone which are reported in Korea and other countries. Risperidone is a atypical antipsychotic drug which has both dopamine D2 receptor antagonistic and potent serotonin 5-HT2 receptor antagnistic
properties.
@ES Risperidone has the following advantages.
@EN 1) Risperidone is significantly more effective against positive. Negative and affective symptoms of acute and chronic schizophrenia than current traditional antipsychotics.
2) Risperidone has mild several adverse effects such as orthostatic hypotension, weight gain and increase in plasma prolactin level, and no serious side-effects. The incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms with risperidone is lower than with
haloperidol :
this suggests that there is a low risk of tradive dyskinesia with resperidone.
